We did it! - Pen Friends is on fire! A number of volunteers have stepped up and started writing multiple cards to encourage more stay-at-home seniors who are isolated in their apartments in order to comply with COVID restrictions. Our prayer has been that God would encourage DFC attendees to participate in this ministry as a way to demonstrate our love for our neighbors and our love for Him. He has answered our prayers.

Our prayer was that the Lord would provide the exact number of cards we needed to reach as many seniors as possible with the glorious message of Easter. Once again, we had more than the 272 cards we needed for The Argyle and The Gardens of St. Elizabeth. This was a clear answer to me that God wanted us to reach out to yet another Senior Assisted Living place. So, I contacted Marycrest Serenity, a mile north of DFC. A few of us worked feverishly to meet the goal of 350 cards. Praise the Lord for His encouragement and for those volunteers who participated. After writing to DFC’s widows and others; Pen Friends wrote a total of 400 cards!

How many Senior Living Residences do we plan to reach in the future? I don’t know, but God does. Please consider joining Pen Friends for our next few mailings in 2021 which will be in mid-summer, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We covet your prayers. Happy Easter!      Margarita Jaramillo-Hall

Our prayer for this ministry is that all children and youth throughout the world will come to know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Why be a MEMBER of DFC Friends Women?

Friends Women (FW) exists to bring missions to the forefront, not only to women but to the church body, as a whole. “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10

FW seek to unite women in Jesus Christ, while raising money and awareness for our mission families. FW meets monthly for an enjoyable fellowship time and to pray corporately for our missionaries. During our time together, we endeavor to grow in our knowledge of God through a contemplative devotional program  or a presentation by a missionary in person. A book review from our reading list is also presented, often by our literature chair. FW also serve Christ by completing projects and raising money to benefit those on the mission field.

If you are looking for a way to connect with the other women in our church, FW is the group for you. Here you will find purpose, fulfillment, Godly counsel, and friendship. You will learn what it means to be a Friends Woman who loves the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength. You will grow in love for your neighbor, both here and abroad, according to Christ’s command. It is FW’s desire to assist you to understand better our missionaries, their needs and what we can do to support them effectively.

There are yearly membership dues of $20 for 2021. The dues help support, among other things, a project that is selected by Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting Friends Women. This year it will go toward a vehicle for the Carpenter family on their return to Rwanda. It also is used for the retreat in the fall, which will be September 17-19 this year. A scholarship for a Friends student is also given and a recommended reading list is provided to our groups.

DFC women are so supportive of our group and we DO APPRECIATE IT!  We would love to have you officially join us as well. Our next meeting is April 17 at 1:00 PM. Chris Amdahl, son of Dave and Joan Amdahl, will be sharing about his mission trip to Thailand last year. He worked with a team on a water project in a village in Thailand

Dues may be given to Kay Burgi at any time.

In-Person Worship Gathering

· Group A will be joining us for the recording of the worship service this Saturday, February 20 at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary.

· Group B will be joining us on Saturday, February 27 at 3:00 PM.

Each group will alternate weeks to attend. If you are ready to return and have not been added to a group, please contact the church office (firstdenverfrie1@qwestoffice.net or 303-455-7604) so we can add you to a group.

Pie Social - The youth are excited for this year’s Pie Social, even if it has to be done a little differently. They have many good ideas and are having a lot of fun planning and recording the program.

The envelopes are now on the bulletin board by the water fountain in the church foyer so people can start giving. Apart from giving online, this will be one of the main ways you can give money to the cause of Pie Social (Quaker Ridge camp scholarships). If you come to the church for the service on Saturdays, you can grab one of the envelopes with the dollar amount that you choose to give, put at least that much money in it, and either put it in the basket in the back of the sanctuary, or give it to Aaron Vanderploeg or Kay Burgi.

We need you to make reservations for either the 2:00 PM or 6:00 PM in-person part of Pie Social. Let either Jan in the church office (firstdenverfrie1@qwestoffice.net or 303-455-7604) or Aaron Vanderploeg  (fdfcyouth@gmail.com) know which time you would like to join us and how many will be in your party. If you have any questions, please give Aaron a call.

There is no part of volunteering that is too small and any interest would be very much appreciated!

PARENTS, if you are interested in having your K-5/6th graders attend our Wednesday evening program, please fill out the registration form and send it back to our AWANA secretary Karen Cordova or the Ministry Director Heather Carlson.

Pen Friends Ministry Update - “The most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unloved.” ~

    Mother Teresa

This is being written on Valentine’s Day, so I do not have an update on how the Argyle seniors reacted to receiving our Valentine cards. I can only recount how God has blessed the small core of faithful people that continue to write to our neighbors living in senior assisted living facilities. The words our Friends pen are uplifting.

What follows is an inspiring incident that occurred when I counted the Valentine cards. There were  a few extras. At a loss to know what to do with them, the Lord reminded me that I could send them to another senior assisted living residence. So I contacted St. Elizabeth Gardens, on W. 32nd Ave. The director was delighted with the prospect. When she said she needed 162 cards, I was overwhelmed. That seemed like an impossible number, especially because it was already February 8. However, the thought that we might bless a lonely heart loomed larger than the challenge. A few of us worked very hard and towards the end, we received a few extra unexpected cards and we ended up delivering 159 cards Friday morning. I knew then that God had blessed us with the exact number of cards St. Elizabeth needed.

In total, we gave the two senior assisted living residences 269 Valentine cards. Wow! Thank you, Jesus, and everyone that wrote a “love note” to God’s favorite Valentines. ~ Margarita Jaramillo-Hall
