Lost and Found—Have you been looking for missing stainless steel cutlery, casserole dishes, pie plates, and other plates? These precious items of yours may have found a new home in the DFC kitchen but they are eager to come back to you. Please check with Judy Van Meter or in  the kitchen drawer under the window of the parlor or above the coffee serving window the next the you come to church..

Pen Friends will be collecting Valentine’s Day cards to send to the seniors in several assisted living facilities. Please purchase some Valentine cards, write a little encouraging message, then place them in the Friends Pen box on the table in the foyer. Questions? Contact Terry Semones.

Pen Friends needs a new leader—I will not be able to continue leading the Pen Friends Ministry in 2022. The ministry has been a blessing and I have been encouraged by the core group of volunteers and by the church body for supporting this community outreach.

The Missions and Outreach Committee recognizes that Pen Friends is a vital ministry that serves the elderly in our community; they would like to see it continue. For this reason, we need help finding a ministry leader to accomplish Pen Friends goals for 2022. If you sense God is calling you to lead Pen Friends or to be a part of its ministry’s leadership team, please contact Terry Semones or Margarita Jaramillo-Hall.

Community Prayer Stop (CPS) volunteers—As life changes have occurred over the past eight months, I know there are changes to people’s ability and desire to volunteer to either check the prayer box once a month or to pray for the requests that are submitted. Therefore, new sign up sheets are on the table in the foyer.  Prayerfully consider how you can serve in this ministry to our church neighborhood.

Can you check the request box?  Can you pray? Speak with Mary Ford if you have any questions or want her to place your name on a list. Also, be sure to request your name be removed or changed to a different time if that is the case. Thank you.

Mary for Missions and Outreach Committee

Our prayer for this ministry is that all children and youth throughout the world will come to know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pen Friends Reaches Its Thanksgiving Goal! Thank you to all who participated in the Thanksgiving Pen Friends mailing effort. We sent 414 cards to the seniors in three senior facilities. Initially, it seemed like an unattainable goal because many of the ministry’s big hitters were Covid-19 bound or unable to participate because of other health issues. God is faithful and good! A group of Awana kids wrote Thanksgiving cards (super cute!). A DFC non-attender who is interested in Quakers, heard about our ministry on the church’s Facebook page. She figured out how to get numerous, very nice Thanksgiving cards to us. We praise God for His mercy and for our volunteers!

Thank you from the DFC staff! The staff of Denver Friends would like to thank you for your generous giving to cover the unexpected cost of replacing the boiler in the church office. It is much warmer to come to work these days!

The Community Prayer Stop is in operation - THANK YOU to those who have volunteered to either pick up requests or pray or BOTH. Continue to pray for the community around the church. James 5:16

We can still use more volunteers to pick up requests, particularly on Tuesdays, but 1st Wednesday of the month and Fridays and Saturdays are also available. If you would like to fill in one time a month on one of those dates, please sign up on the sheets on the table in the foyer. It is best if the requests can be picked up before noon. Mary Ford is happy to answer any questions you may have.

Cans for camp - Friends Women continue to collect empty cans for camp scholarships. There is a large trash can between the two double doors of the foyer for your donations. Thank you.

Pen Friends Ministry Needs Your Help! Please share hope, inspiration, and prayers this Christmas with someone who would be delighted to hear from you. Christmas is the perfect time to send seniors, who are on the threshold of eternity, a message of encouragement that Jesus is calling them to Him.

Pen Friends (PF) are delivering Christmas cards to the elderly to cheer them up. The beauty of these mailings is having many participate, so they feel personal. Need cards? Church folks have donated many Christmas cards to our outreach ministry. If you want Christmas cards to write to the seniors, please tell Margarita and she will get them to you. Write a card or two or many and deliver them to the Pen Friends box on the table in the church foyer, the church office mail slot (4575 Eliot St.), or at Margarita Jaramillo-Hall’s house. Our deadline is  Sunday, December 12. Thank you.

November 11, 2021

So sorry to hear of a few positive COVID tests in our faith community. We continue to pray for our Lord's protection over them. All those who would prefer wearing a mask to church and Christian Education classes should feel perfectly free to do so. We want all to be safe and to feel safe during these trying times but also, we want to promote "gathering together" for worship and encouragement.

Our condolences to Ben Anthony and his family on the passing of his mother, Lois Anthony. Her Memorial service will be held Friday, November 12, 11:00 AM at St. Dominic’s on 29th and Federal. Please keep the Anthony family in your prayers.

A reception (only) will be held at Denver Friends at 12:30 PM this Friday for all who would like to visit with the family.

Help Pen Friends Minister to the Forgotten - DFC’s Pen Friends Ministry is seeking your help to bring God's love and encouragement to NW Denver’s elderly living in three different senior resident facilities. Our goal is to send 400 Thanksgiving cards to seniors that are shut-in and who are often very lonely. We need your help to reach our goal. It is easy to get involved. Write a greeting, sign the card, and label the envelope “Pen Friend.” You can drop off your cards any time before the deadline. Put them in the Pen Friends’ box on the table in the church foyer, in the church office mail slot, or deliver them to Margarita Jaramillo-Hall’s house. Our deadline is Sunday, November 14.

Operation Christmas Child boxes need to be returned to the church between November 14 and 21. Don’t forget: $9 per box for shipping, a note to the child, and pray over the box. Check out https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/what-goes-in-my-shoebox-suggestions/ for more information.  Not in the mood to shop?  You can build a box on-line at  https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/buildonline/.  Additional information and boxes available in the church foyer.

Thank you! I thank God for you, my church family. Thank you for all of the prayers, cards, calls, flowers, visits and meals. You have been caring for Doug and me and loving us well. You bless, delight, and bring joy to my heart. Please keep those prayers coming as I continue to heal and begin to bear weight on my left leg and right arm. We appreciate you. Thank you for being with us on this journey. Hope to see you soon.

Life Groups -There are several Life Groups (small groups) that meet around the Denver area. If you are interested in attending one of these groups, please call the church office and we can tell you where these groups are meeting.

At our June DFC Business Meeting the CE Committee proposed a mission statement for our youth ministry program which was affirmed and approved. It reads:

“Denver Friends Church youth ministry exists to train, equip, engage, and inspire the next generation to live Christ-centered lives in the real world.”

It is evident that God is at work within our congregation, drawing our attention and hearts towards our children and teen ministries. The question now is how does God want us to pursue this mission statement as a congregation? We spent much of our time at the DFC Business Meeting praying and brainstorming as to how we can do just that! Some of our ideas were:

developing mentor/prayer partnerships with our adults and teens, having more inter-generational events and service projects to bring our adults and youth together, being more intentional about involving our youth in Sunday worship service, increasing the hours and expanding the job description of our youth pastor position, and many more.

We now need your help! A task force is being formed to develop a list of ways in which we will pursue this new youth ministry mission statement together. If you would like to be a part of it, please reach out to Ruth M’Gonigle or Karen Burgi, CE co-chairs. Also, we need you to  pray! Pray that God will lead us clearly, and we will follow Him boldly as a community of believers.

Thank you.
